Bulk checks, watching and history

Run one check for a whole list of domains, have domains checked at regular intervals and see in the history what changed since the last run.

Three tools in the DNS category help when you want more than checking one domain once: Massenprüfung (bulk check) for many domains at once, Beobachtung (watching) for regular checks and the Verlauf (history) for everything that has already run. Bulk check and watching need a license; the history is free.

Which checks are available

Bulk check and watching offer the same choice in the Check field:

Check Input
DNS Lookup (A), MX Lookup domain
Reverse DNS, IP-Info IP address
Komplettbericht (full report), Mail-Bericht (mail report) domain
SPF, DMARC, DKIM, BIMI, MTA-STS domain
Blacklist domain or IP
DNSSEC, Nameserver, WHOIS / RDAP domain
HTTP(S), TLS-Zertifikat (TLS certificate) domain or host

The individual tools’ options aren’t available here. The DNS lookup always queries A, DKIM searches under common selectors. All queries go through the default resolver from the settings. TLS-Zertifikat is missing in the browser.

Bulk check

  1. Paste your domains or IPs into Domains oder IPs, one per line. Commas, semicolons and spaces work as separators too; duplicates are dropped.
  2. Pick the Check.
  3. Click Alle prüfen (check all).

The app checks four entries at a time. A progress bar shows how far it has got; each row gets its status dot and, below it, the most severe finding. Clicking a row opens the full report with all tabs and export options, PDF included. Abbrechen (cancel) stops the list after the checks currently running.

When the list is done, Als CSV speichern (save as CSV) saves a table with the columns input, result and findings. Every result also lands in the history.

Typical uses: checking SPF and DMARC on all customer domains after a migration, keeping a list of server IPs off blacklists, or generating a full report for every domain.

Watching

Watching checks domains or IPs at fixed intervals and lets you know when the result changes.

  1. Type the domain or IP into Domain oder IP.
  2. Pick the Check.
  3. Under Alle (every), pick the interval: 15 min, 1 h, 6 h or 1 Tag (1 day).
  4. Click Beobachten (watch).

The first run starts immediately and sets the baseline. Each entry then shows its status dot, the interval and the time of the last run. The arrow (Jetzt prüfen, check now) triggers a run by hand; the cross (Nicht mehr beobachten, stop watching) removes the entry.

Notifications

If a later run changes the overall level or any finding, the app sends a system notification, for example:

DNSSEC: example.com Ergebnis jetzt mit Fehlern (vorher in Ordnung). (Result now with errors, previously OK.)

If the level stays the same and only individual findings change, the text reads Die Befunde haben sich geändert. (the findings have changed). The history shows exactly what’s different. Notifications are available on Mac, Windows and Linux. Allow them for the iw Toolbox in your system’s notification settings.

Important

  • Checks only run while the app is open. It doesn’t have to be in the foreground, but it mustn’t be quit. If it was closed for a while, it catches up on due checks at the next launch.
  • Without a valid license, watching pauses.
  • Every run lands in the history.

History

The Verlauf (history) collects every check you’ve run, newest first, including those from bulk checks and watching. The app keeps the last 200 entries.

Each entry shows the status dot, what was checked, the tool and the time. If the same check with the same input has run before, the comparison with the previous run follows: unverändert (unchanged) or, for example, 2 neu, 1 entfallen (2 new, 1 dropped). So you can see where something happened without opening anything.

  • Clicking an entry opens the tool with that input. Run the check again with its start button, and the Seit dem letzten Lauf (since the last run) line shows the changes (see Reading results).
  • The cross (Entfernen, remove) deletes one entry.
  • Exportieren (export) saves the whole history as verlauf.json, complete reports included.
  • Leeren (clear) deletes all entries.

The history is stored only on your device.
