IP Unban
After too many failed logins, inwendo's servers block your IP. The IP unban tool releases it again right away, no license required.
inwendo’s servers protect themselves against password attacks: after too many failed logins, for example to mail or via FTP, the firewall blocks the IP address for a while. Sometimes that hits you yourself, for instance when a mail client keeps trying the old password after a password change.
IP entsperren (IP unban) in the inwendo category releases the address right away. The tool is free for everyone, no license needed, and is available on all platforms.
How to tell you’re blocked
- Your mail client suddenly can’t connect to the server, although it worked a moment ago.
- Website, FTP or other services on the inwendo server can’t be reached from your connection, but they work over the mobile network.
- Colleagues in the same office are affected too. They usually share the same public IP.
How to unban
- Open IP entsperren. The app determines your public IP address and fills it into the IP-Adresse field. Below it, it’s shown as Deine IP: (your IP), with IPv4 and IPv6 both clickable.
- Check that the right address is in the field. To release a different IP, for example a colleague’s working from home, enter it manually.
- Click IP entsperren.
The app shows the response from inwendo’s service. It can take up to five minutes until the address is free on all servers.
If it doesn’t work
„Eigene IP nicht ermittelbar.“ (own IP can’t be determined) The app couldn’t look up your public address, for example because of a firewall. Search the web for “what is my IP” and enter the address manually.
„Bitte eine IPv4- oder IPv6-Adresse eingeben.“ (please enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address) The field doesn’t contain a valid IP. The tool doesn’t accept hostnames.
The service can’t be reached. The app then offers Stattdessen im Browser entsperren (unban in the browser instead). The button opens the same release in your browser.
The block comes right back. Some device keeps trying with wrong credentials, often a mail app on a phone or tablet, a printer with scan-to-email or an old FTP login. Fix the password there, or the firewall will block the IP again after the next failed attempts.
Which IP is meant
What gets blocked is the public IP your connection uses on the internet, not your computer’s address on the local network such as 192.168.x.x. That’s why the app determines the address as seen from outside.
If you have both IPv4 and IPv6, the block may affect either one. When in doubt, unban both one after the other.
Privacy
To determine your public IP, the app queries the ipify service (api.ipify.org and api64.ipify.org) when you open the tool. Only when you click IP entsperren is the address from the field sent to inwendo’s IP unban service. More in Privacy in the app.
