DNS Lookup, MX Lookup, Reverse DNS and all developer tools are free. A license unlocks the other checks. Here's how to request one and enter it in the app.

You can use part of the iw Toolbox without a license. For the remaining DNS, mail and network checks, you need a license key from inwendo.

You still see licensed tools in the sidebar, with a lock. If you open one, you get „Dieses Werkzeug braucht eine Lizenz“ (this tool needs a license) with the Lizenz eintragen (enter license) button, which takes you to the settings.

Who gets a license

Private: free for personal use.
inwendo customers: free.
Companies: on request.

Requesting a license

Request the license on the Request a license page. We review the request and send you the license key by email.

Entering the license

Open Einstellungen (settings) at the bottom of the sidebar. The Lizenz (license) section is at the very top.
Paste the key from the email into the Lizenzschlüssel (license key) field.
Click Aktivieren (activate).

The app checks the key right away with inwendo’s license server (license.inwendo.cloud). If it’s valid, you see „Lizenz aktiviert“ (license activated) and all checks are unlocked. If the server can’t be reached, the app doesn’t save the key. Try again with an internet connection.

The status

After activation, the Lizenz section shows the status:

Aktiv	The license is valid.
Nicht bestätigt – bitte mit Internetverbindung erneut prüfen	Not confirmed: the last successful check was too long ago. Check again with an internet connection.
Ungültig: …	Invalid: the license server rejected the key; the reason is shown.
Abgelaufen am …	Expired: the expiry date in the key has passed.

Below that, where available, are Kundennummer (customer number), Lizenz-ID (license ID), Gültig bis (valid until), Zuletzt geprüft (last checked) and Offline gültig bis (valid offline until).

Erneut prüfen (check again) asks the license server immediately, for example after a renewal.
Lizenz entfernen (remove license) deletes the key from the app, without asking for confirmation. Afterwards the licensed checks are locked again.

When the license is checked

The app checks the license when you activate it and afterwards on launch, if the last check was more than 24 hours ago. Only your license key and the software’s identifier are sent to the license server.

If the server can’t be reached, for example on the road without a connection, the last successful check stays valid for another 14 days. Offline gültig bis shows until when. After that, the licensed checks are locked until a check succeeds again.

If the key is rejected

The license server gives a reason, which the app shows in German:

Der Lizenzschlüssel ist nicht lesbar. Bitte vollständig einfügen.	The key can’t be read; something got cut off while copying.
Diese Lizenz gilt für eine andere inwendo-Software.	The license is for another inwendo product, for example the iw Build Station.
Die Signatur des Lizenzschlüssels ist ungültig.	The key’s signature is invalid; it was altered. Copy it from the email again.
Das ist kein inwendo-Lizenzschlüssel.	That’s not an inwendo license key; wrong text in the field.
Der Kaufcode wurde nicht gefunden.	The purchase code wasn’t found; the license isn’t (or no longer) on record. Get in touch with us.
Der Lizenzserver kann gerade nicht prüfen. Bitte später erneut versuchen.	A problem on our side, not a verdict on the key. Try again later.
Der Lizenzserver ist nicht erreichbar.	No connection to `license.inwendo.cloud`, for example because of a firewall or proxy.

License and MCP server

The app’s MCP server uses the same license. You don’t need to enter it there again.
