The interface
How the iw Toolbox window is laid out: sidebar with categories, favourites, search, recently checked inputs, status bar and light or dark mode.
The window has three parts: the sidebar on the left with all tools, the selected tool on the right and the status bar at the bottom.

The sidebar
Under WERKZEUGE (tools) the categories appear in this order. The number on the right shows how many tools the category has on your platform. A click expands or collapses it. On first launch DNS and Mail are open.
| Category | Contents |
|---|---|
| DNS | lookup, reverse DNS, DNSSEC, propagation, name servers, trace, zone transfer, full report, bulk check, watching, history |
| MX, SPF, DMARC, DKIM, BIMI, MTA-STS, blacklists, SMTP, mail domain report | |
| Netzwerk (network) | WHOIS/RDAP, IP info, TLS, HTTP, ports, ping, traceroute, plus calculators for subnets and MAC addresses |
| inwendo | IP entsperren (unblock IP) |
| Krypto, Konverter, Web, Entwicklung, Text, Daten, Mathe und Einheiten, Bilder | the developer tools |
Without a license, tools that need one carry a small lock. Tools your platform can’t run are missing entirely; in the browser, for example, there’s no DNS-Trace and no Port-Check. At the very bottom of the sidebar you open the Einstellungen (settings).
The app remembers the last tool you opened and starts there next time.
Favourites
To the right of every tool’s title sits a star. A click (Zu Favoriten, add to favourites) puts the tool into the FAVORITEN block at the top of the sidebar. A second click (Aus Favoriten entfernen, remove from favourites) takes it out again. That way the three or four checks you use every day are always in view without expanding categories.
Search
The Werkzeug suchen (find tool) field at the top of the sidebar, or ⌘ K (Ctrl K on Windows and Linux), opens a search across all tools. It searches title, description and category, plus English terms and abbreviations. So dig, ptr, subnet, jwt or base64 all find the right tool.
- Use the arrow keys to pick a result.
- Enter opens the highlighted result, or the first one if nothing is highlighted.
- Matches in the title rank above matches in the description.
Input and recently checked values
Every check has an input row at the top, with the tool’s options, the resolver picker and the start button next to it. Pressing Enter in the input field also starts the check. Each tool remembers its last input.
Below the input row up to six chips with a clock icon appear: the most recently checked inputs from all checks, newest first. A click fills in the value and starts the check right away. So if you’ve just checked a domain’s mail setup and now want to see its name servers, one click is enough. Tools that only accept IP addresses only show matching entries.
The status bar
At the bottom of the window, the left side shows what’s going on:
- Bereit (ready) while nothing is running,
- during a check a spinner with the tool and input, or all of them if several run at once,
- afterwards the last check that ran, with its duration in milliseconds.
On the right you see the default resolver from the settings (Resolver: …) and the platform.
Light and dark
Under Einstellungen › Darstellung (Settings › Appearance) choose System, Hell (light) or Dunkel (dark). System follows your Mac’s setting. The sidebar stays dark in both modes.
Narrow windows and mobile devices
Below 720 points of width, on phones and in a narrow browser window, the sidebar turns into a list with a search field. Favourites come first, then all categories. Each tool opens as its own page, and you reach the settings via the gear icon at the top right.
